Happy Friday - bring on the weekend! I’m digging the blackberries! Did some pruning and fertilizing over the winter and it’s paying off - this is the first year I’ve gotten any significant amount. 🍇 My favorite way to eat these beauties is with homemade yogurt drizzled with @traderjoes avacado honey (never knew that was a thing, but it is amazing!) and topped with granola. 🍯 This makes for a light, healthy breakfast or lunch and oh so refreshing! 💜 How do you like to eat your berries? . . . .
Where did the summer go? I can’t believe it’s time to start fall seeds already. 🍁 These cool weather seedling 🌱 babies are just a few weeks old. I started them indoors under grow lights because its WAAAAY to hot outside for them to grow and thrive. That way I have transplants ready to go when the weather is cools off. 👩🏻🌾 Start your Fall garden with me - it’s easy peasy with my Fall Garden Seed Collection. Grow the same veggies I am - it will be so fun to compare notes as we grow and harvest together! 🍁 Shop the link in “Fall Seeds” story highlight or visit calikimgardenandhome.com. Stay tuned for fall garden video this weekend on my YT channel. 🙋🏻♀️ Hands up if you’ve started your fall seeds! . . . .
When it comes to garden to table I like to keep it super simple so I have no excuse NOT to eat healthy! 🍅 I make up a huge pan of roasted veggies and we eat it all week as a side dish, topping on salads, garden fresh pizza, burrito bowls, ect. 🥕 Here’s the how to: 🍓Wash and chop whatever veggies & herbs you are harvesting. 🍆Throw them all in a bowl, drizzle with olive oil, sprinkle with salt & pepper. 🌶Put on a cookie sheet lined w parchment paper 🥕Broil 6 inches from heat for about 15 min. or until done to your liking. 🥒 Super delicious, and its's so energizing to eat healthy veggies (that I grew myself!) all week long! 😀 What’s your favorite easy go-to garden to table recipe?
Start your week off by joining my for YT LIVE today at noon, PT (link in Monday LIVE story highlight. I’ll share my 4 fav summer garden tips and answer your questions LIVE, see you there! 👩🏻🌾 In the meantime, we are off to a HOT start of the week, and I’m prepping for another triple digit heat wave here in So Cal. ☀️ To help the garden cope with the heat - here’s what’s on my to do list today: 🍅Harvest anything that is close to being ripe. This helps the the plant use it’s energy coping with the heat instead of keeping veggies alive. 🍆Cover what I can with shade cloth (pictured here over a tomato plant) to prevent blossom drop and heat stress. Sheets & old curtain do the job too! 💦 Extra watering - (for me and the garden) to help beat the heat. 🥒Mulch, mulch, mulch to prevent water evaporation and protect the surface roots from getting overheated. 💯 Temps are supposed to cool down in the high 80’s but the end of the week. Fingers crossed! 🌞 How’s your garden (and you!) coping with the heat? . . . .
Happy Friday, 🙋🏻♀️IG friends! Pulled a few pretties from the garden grocery store this morning. Scalloped squash, Roma and Siberian tomatoes, Poblano peppers, Chocolate pepper, a few Patio Baby eggplant (@aasgardenwinners) Red Chard, strawberries and blackberries. 🍅🍆🌶🍓🍇🥦🥒🥕🌽🌶🍎🍉🥝🍋 Add some meat and it will be just enough dinner tonight for @calicameraguy and I. 😋 Oh, and of course, 🌻. Love the variety the garden gives! 👩🏻🌾 What are u harvesting today? . . .

A ghost 👻 in my garden? No, it’s just my Yellow Brandywine tomatoes covered with an old sheer curtain. 🍅 Another triple digit heat ☀️wave is hitting So Cal, - temps over 90 F slooooow everything down. Blossoms drop, fruit may not set or ripen. Covering with some type of shade cloth (an old sheet, curtain or purchased shade cloth) will help protect them from the heat. 🌞 How are your tomatoes doing in the summer dog🐶 days? . . . .
