Growing my own salad is definitely one of my favorite parts of gardening. There’s nothing quite like the joy of stepping outside, harvesting a basket of greens and bringing it inside to eat - so fresh and full of all the flavor food is supposed to have! Can you relate? 🥗 Today my garden salad includes some sweet, multicolored salad greens, (flavored with a dill flower) growing under a shade cloth and will be topped off with some cherry tomatoes grown in the warm California sun. ☀️ You can grow your own salads (if you’re not already). Once you taste your homegrown, you’ll be hooked and will never go back to store-bought bagged salads. - I promise. Plant seeds today and you’ll be eating fresh greens that YOU grew yourself in 4-6 weeks! 🌿 Need seeds? Pick up my Lettuce and Heat Tolerant Greens seed collections at calikimgardenandhome.com (or tap photo for link). 🥗 What are YOUR favorite salad greens and do you grow them yourself? . . .
I love growing flowers with my veggies, brings the pollinators right where I want them - to my veggies! 🌺 This is the first spaghetti squash flower of the season, tiny spaghetti squash are forming - photo coming soon! 🌼 AND what do you think of the little cutie Thumbelina Zinnia? (Small Space Seed Collection) It’s just 6-10 inches, perfect for a border flower and the bees LOVE It! 🐝 What flowers are you growing with your veggies? . . .

One of the best perks about being a gardener 👩🏻‍🌾is a fresh, tasty homegrown salad - don’t you agree? And the lovely Red Chard ❤️gives a salad a splash of summer color! 🌿 So many reasons I love growing this variety - besides being virtually indestructible , (here’s to all the brown thumbs 👍 out there) it’s beautiful enough to be grown as an ornamental, it’s edible, and thrives in summer ☀️heat (yay for summer salads!) Many people tell me it’s their fav in my Heat Tolerant Greens 🌱Seed Collection. 🌿 What’s your fav heat tolerant green? . . . .
We’re getting ready for some major garlic breath around here! 🗣 In my new YT video I check on the garlic 🌱 I planted last fall, share how to know when it’s ready to harvest and harvest the garlic scapes so the garlic will grow larger cloves. Just checkin’ in to see how your strawberries 🍓 are growing…Are you growing them in towers, raised beds, in ground? Any bug problems? 🍓 Not too sure what happened to this strawberry, it’s shape may be funny, but the color and flavor are fantastic!I ☀️ My favorite strawberry growing tip? Glad you asked! I love growing strawberries in towers made from plastic crates stacked 2-3 crates high. 🍓 The crate towers grow lots of berries in a little space, strawberries love the drainage and the loose soil. I fertilize once every 7-10 days with @vermisterra worm tea (vermisterra.com, use code “calikim” for 10% off) and cover with shade cloth in temps over 85 F. This is my third year growing strawbs, and the biggest harvest year yet. 😀 ☀️ Share YOUR strawberry growing tips below! . . .
