On a very beautiful day in Ireland, I met with the immensely talented painter Jane Brideson, who creates works around the ancient goddesses and myths of Ireland. She will be having an art show at one of the ancient sites of Ireland in county Meath this Summer Solstice. Can you guess which goddesses Jane depicted in these following art pieces? 🌿h a z e l t r e e🌿 A couple posts ago I mentioned falling into a kind of meditation where things grab my attention whilst out in nature. Sometimes its just aethetics & other times its much more - I genuinely feel intuitively called & then I cant stop seeing that thing. It doesnt happen all the time so when it does I pay attention. Last sunday it was with Hazel trees. I didnt realise it was hazel at first because I was being pulled to different sizes & ages of the tree but I figured pretty quickly with the leaf shape & their soft furry texture (can a leaf be cute? yes. yes it can) ... later that evening rob held out oracle cards faced down from a deck inspired by celtic folklore & trees... without hesitation I swiftly pulled one out with full confidence & it was the > Hazel< card.. he freaked out by temporarily going into a state shock because yeah c’mon what are the chances & also because thats the card I expected to see so not shocked. I began to read the symbolism + history from the book & as it mention it being connected to salmon (a celtic sign from celtic calendar which is 9 months) I rememered this was my sign & Hazel was my celtic birth tree. If you are born between the 5th Aug - 1st Sept its yours too. As I read on - here is what I learned... “Seek wisdom in the depths...” "For the Celts, the hazel is deeply connected with wisdom, and the fruit of the tree(known as the 'food of the gods') has an important place on the iconography of learning. Irish tradition speaks of the sacred salmon who swim in a pool surrounded by nine hazel trees. When these trees dropped their nuts into the water below, the salmon ate them and then carried them to the sea and back to their spawning run. This endless cycle was seen as a metaphor for the passing of wisdom from age to age and from person to person. Salmon were already regarded as sacred in their own right, and ingesting the fruit of wisdom made them doubly precious. Celtic literature contains many
