The mad scientist. I just started and editing an environmental portrait series of vintage poster restorer printmaker, painter, and all-around badass, Jan lor. Well not a particularly flattering portrait I think the heavy shadows and dark mood are reminiscent of amad scientist working in the lab.
EYE OF THE STORM Sunrise Shoot still happened even though we could see rain coming. But It was worth it. Big shout out to the team. This is Mark. Mark was one of the first subjects I took photos of when I started at @falmouthuni I had never used off camera speedlights before, but I wanted to learn. I had access to a treasure trove of equipment to rent at the Uni's photo stores, so I rented the light, a stand, a softbox and had a play. This was the first shoot where I used artificial lighting at a location, it was an important one because it pretty much set the tone for my style for the following 3 years and gave me a reputation for being confident with flash photography. I met Mark one day when I was walking down Falmouth highstreet, looking for inspiration for a project. I had initially walked passed Mark as he offered me one of the copies of The Big Issue he was selling. I politely declined, as the majority of us do, but something in Mark's mannerisms, tone of voice and genuine sincerity when he wished me a great day stuck in my head and began to take hold. No more than 20 yards later I stopped walking, turned on a dime and went back to Mark who gave me a look like he knew I'd be back. I told him I wanted to spend some time with him, to understand his life and what living as a Big Issue vendor in Falmouth is like. He obliged readily with one caveat; he would not go up to the Uni to have his picture taken, I would need to come to him. Thus, I needed to bring the studio to the street. I met Mark several times after this shoot. But I didn't see him again after my first year at Falmouth. #canon550d#50mm#bigissue#thebigissue#homelessness#portrait#portraitphotography#photojournalism#blog#artificiallighting#strobe#flashlight#speedlight#offcameralighting#falmouth#falmouthuni#2012#student#learning#project#highstreet
