Vitam regit fortuna, non sapientia - Fortune, not wisdom, rules lives Every once in a while, one comes across a painting that is fascinating to contemplate. Stand in front of ‘The Paston Treasure’ and your eye wanders the canvas to discover yet another detail. It dates from the 17th century but its jumbled array of objects appears like contemporary decoupage. The fact that this collection came from all the corners of the known world underscores - in the words of a guest at last night’s opening - a time when ‘the North Sea was less of a barrier, and more of a carrier.’ It’s a time capsule that reflects the fortune and prestige of the Paston family who at their pinnacle of wealth and influence were based at Oxnead Hall. However, a few years after this painting’s completion, the family would undergo a reversal of fortune, and begin to sell these objects. I’ll be viewing this exhibition again. . .

Daily Divination: Cornucopia Cornucopia is a wish card, and when it turns up, it can suggest a time when a wish is being fulfilled. Cornucopia also signals a time of harvest and blessings, a time when the Universe is sending gifts your way. These gifts can come in the form of financial abundance and improvement; job and career fulfillment; emotionally satisfying romantic relationships; and in many other ways. Going with the harvest aspect of the card, Cornucopia can also be saying to you that the efforts you’ve been putting into a particular area of your life (or your life overall) is about to “reap a harvest,” meaning you’re about to experience the rewards or “fruits” of those labors. In that sense, Spirit is applauding all of your effort(s). This may also be a day to give thought to the Universal Law of Sowing and Reaping, to understand that the seeds you’re planting right now in this present moment will reap and yield a harvest at some point in the future. Take a look around at the “fruits of your labors” in your life and ask, “Was it worth it?” If the answer is yes, then affirm what you have with gratitude. If the answer is no, then let this be the time you prepare the ground to receive the new seeds you’ll be planting—seeds that may be just thing to help you attain the result you desire.
