OUR FAVORITE PARTY GAMES: #5 ••• Danielle: CRANIUM Even though Cranium isn’t necessarily considered the coolest game anymore (which is why I don’t get to play it as much as I’d like), it’s an oldie but a goodie for me. I’ve been playing it for decades at this point and I always enjoy the amazing quantity and quality of different challenges. From spelling to sculpting to trivia to drawing with your eyes closed, Cranium offers something for everyone and I always have a good time playing it. ••• Josh: MYSTERIUM I want to start by saying that even though I really love this game, it’s not higher on my party game list because it’s a much calmer game and so it doesn’t always work best in party settings. However, I’ve always had such a blast with the fun back and forth between the ghost player and the mediums. There isn’t anything more frustrating - in a good way! - than hearing the mediums state the exact reasoning behind one of the cards to only watch one person completely derail the group and lead them down a horribly incorrect interpretation. Plus, it’s one of the few games my mom actually enjoys!
Alchemists is a worker placement game where players' main goal is to deduce and then publish the ingredients to a number of alchemical potions. This is done by observing what potion is made when two ingredients are mixed together. This mixing procedure is controlled by an app, which reads in the two ingredients and gives out the resulting potion. In addition to the deduction puzzle, players must also manage their resources and reputation by purchasing rare artifacts, debunking other players’ theories, and selling potions to adventurers. ••• Josh’s Thoughts: There are alot of moving parts to this game, but once you get into it,everything flows quite smoothly. The one thing I'm nervous about is that if the deduction puzzle will start to feel same-y after repeated plays, though I have yet to reach that point! I should also comment on how well done the app integration is in this game. It's not done as a gimmick, but really as an essential component of the game. ••• Danielle’s Thoughts: In a very saturated field of worker placement games, Alchemists really stands out to me. It takes standard worker placement and ups the excitement factor with a fun logic puzzle reminiscent of the type I used to love to do when I was younger. ••• VERDICTS (Always at the Table=👍🏻👍🏻, Join the Table=👍🏻, Watch the Table=👍🏻👎🏻, Leave the Table=👎🏻, Flip the Table=👎🏻👎🏻) ••• Josh’s Verdict: JOIN THE TABLE ••• Danielle’s Verdict: JOIN THE TABLE
I haven’t lost a game as consistently as I lose at Decrypto before. 😂 And yet, I keep suggesting to bring it to the table. 🎲: #decrypto 👦: #thomasdagenaislesperance 🕋: @scorpionmasque 🎭: 3-8 Players 🕰: 30 Mins 👩👩👧👦: 12+ Age 🗿: 2.73/5 Weight 🧠: #deduction#wordgame
