He Sarah, why did you choose this title? Great question, thanks for asking! 😂 Let me tell ya! 😉 Back in 2015 I had a a portion of my kidney removed along with the jerk tumor that was squatting in there. Thankfully it ended up being benign but I was left with nerve damage that was (and still is daily) very painful. I was prescribed medicine that normally helps with this kind of pain. And it did help... kind of. The pain went away, just in time for our son’s wedding (Praise God!). But a few weeks later I started feeling like a completely different human. I was experiencing a side effect of the drug that only happens to 1-3% of people (just my luck!🙄)who use it. Deep, dark, depression. For the first time in my life my world had been overtaken by a thick fog and there was no joy to be seen. So I started the quest to restore that joy to my life. And at the same time my friend, Annette, was battling cancer. We talked about her need for restoration as well. We had different issues but the same desired change. We both were in the business of clinging to the life preserver that God is for us. We both were relying on the hope that comes with believing in a gracious God. We both trusted we would be restored. So, when choosing a title it was a no brainer! My desire was to help Annette find joy in her last days till she had full restoration. ♥️ The rest of the story is in a little letter I wrote to the readers of the book! . If you are in need of a bit of restoration.... if you know someone who could use more joy in their life... then this 30 day devotional is for you/them! You can purchase one, or two, or more, in our Etsy shop! The link in my profile! ***100% of the profits will go to the Susan G. Marathon runners are consistently, if not constantly, training for their upcoming race. And just like marathon runners, we, as christians, should be constantly training as well. Training each day by reading God's word, praising and worshipping God, and asking Him to attune our hearts to the Holy Spirit. Doing these things will prepare us to deal with the possible obstacles and hinderances in our lives. . . "Faithfullness-every day, some days more and some days less- will yield amazing results as you run the marathon of life for your Lord." . . . #devotional#unshakeable#wife#jesusgirl#marathonoflife#hiswayovermine#dogmom#runwithjesus#christianwomen#coffee#earlymornings#christianwife
Boundaries represent a start and stopping point. They are used for organization and protection. They divide space and set limits. . Reading chapter 15 of Joshua got me thinking about the boundaries that we set in our own lives. Although the boundaries in Joshua are focused more so on land, it doesn’t mean that the lesson can’t transfer to our personal lives. . The boundaries found in Joshua are... 1. Specific 2. Purposeful 3. Strong . We need to be able to specify what our boundaries are in a way that people can understand. They should be clear so that people don’t have to guess. . We should know the reason behind our own boundaries. Are we setting them up to allow for personal space, time, comfort, a level of respect? . A boundary isn’t something that should just be knocked over. It should be strong and respected. That requires work on both sides—the person setting the boundary and the person receiving it. . Take some time to think about the boundaries or lack there of in your life. They aren’t a new concept, but your way of using them could be. Ask God for some wisdom and direction in this area, and see how things work out with the two of you working together. #ourwordshavepower
Is there such as thing as moral or spiritual absolutes? Values, customs, styles, laws, and just about everything changes with the times. We sometimes justify our actions and behaviors based upon the calendar. I did what I did in high school because it was the 80s. As a young adult, I changed because it was the 90s. Then, we entered a new century and a new millennium. Wow. I have been through a lot of changes! 📆 📆 That’s not all bad as some things do need to change. 📆 📆 But some things do not change. God is constant. He does not change. He is the same yesterday, today, and forever. 📆 📆 Therefore, I do not want to base my spirituality or my morality on the calendar. While everything around me is changing, one thing remains. 📆 📆 Steadfast. Secure. Unchanging. That’s my Jesus. I need to base my life on Him. 📆 📆 Yes, some things do change. No, you will not see me dressed today in the same style clothes that I wore in my senior pictures (even as cool 😎 as I was). So, thank God that some things do change! 📆 📆 But I also thank Him for not changing. He is the standard by which I need to live my life. 📆 📆 #thefactorbooks#unchanging#thesame
The sword of the Lord, and of Gideon." Judges 7:20 Gideon ordered his men to do two things: covering up a torch in an earthen pitcher, he bade them, at an appointed signal, break the pitcher and let the light shine, and then sound with the trumpet, crying, "The sword of the Lord, and of Gideon! the sword of the Lord, and of Gideon!" This is precisely what all Christians must do. First, you must shine; break the pitcher which conceals your light; throw aside the bushel which has been hiding your candle, and shine. Let your light shine before men; let your good works be such, that when men look upon you, they shall know that you have been with Jesus. Then there must be the sound, the blowing of the trumpet. There must be active exertions for the ingathering of sinners by proclaiming Christ crucified. Take the gospel to them; carry it to their door; put it in their way; do not suffer them to escape it; blow the trumpet right against their ears. Remember that the true war-cry of the Church is Gideon's watchword, "The sword of the Lord, and of Gideon!" God must do it, it is his own work. But we are not to be idle; instrumentality is to be used--"The sword of the Lord, and of Gideon!" If we only cry, "The sword of the Lord!" we shall be guilty of an idle presumption; and if we shout, "The sword of Gideon!" alone, we shall manifest idolatrous reliance on an arm of flesh: we must blend the two in practical harmony, "The sword of the Lord, and of Gideon!" We can do nothing of ourselves, but we can do everything by the help of our God; let us, therefore, in his name determine to go out personally and serve with our flaming torch of holy example, and with our trumpet tones of earnest declaration and testimony, and God shall be with us, and Midian shall be put to confusion, and the Lord of hosts shall reign forever and ever. - Charles Spurgeon #devotional#biblereading#faithblogger#loveofgod#intheword#devotional#biblestudy#christiancommunity#jesusistheword
