how I get away with reading six books at once: at least three are stories/essays. anyone else? 🌿🤤 also the view from my back deck is LUSH but I’m most definitely an indoor cat in this 95 degree heat. #whatimreading#evebabitz#bookstagram
"The papery flowers, a blood/magenta color black against the sky of rainswept blue, dangle in the air above us, it is like Mexico, the lushness is so simple, each ingredient of the highest quality, the air, the colors, the slight breeze." • I didn't know anything about Eve Babitz until I stumbled upon #eveshollywood. More like a series of atmospheric vignettes than a traditional memoir, it's a charming and conversational piece of pre-70s Los Angeles, a city where there are "spaces between words" and pink sunsets and rock stars and best taquitos in the world. • #newyorkreviewbooks#orpheusbooksloves
Book No. 44 of 2018 ~ ⭐️⭐️⭐️. I’ve been wanting to read some of Eve Babitz’s work for a long while, but haven’t been able to stop into her books before. I bought this new edition of ‘Sex and Rage’ in Brighton last week, and since it was sunny and hot it finally felt right to read it - I certainly think that Babitz’s novels need to be read in the heat, it just feels a lot more appropriate and atmospheric. I’m not into the drinky/druggy/party thing at all, so I did feel a bit disconnected from this book a bit, but still felt like it was a nice snapshot of LA in the 70s. After this I’m excited to try more of her writing!

“I love it here in New York, it is the only city for me. Except Paris. And Venice, of course. But sometimes I miss very much California, I miss those sunsets—you know the ones I mean—but most of all what I miss from California is something one finds nowhere else on earth…” “Taquitos?” Sonia laughed; her laugh rolled around them like soft pearls. “Well, that, too,” she said. “But what I really miss is the sea…” — Eve Babitz, Sex and Rage : : : #evebabitz#sexandrage#california#sea#pacificocean#agfaoptima#filmisnotdead
