A lot of gym goers may have heard the terms high-bar and low-bar when it comes to squatting and be left confused as to which one they should be doing. While choosing one over the other isn’t going to make or break your progress, choosing the right one for your goal and/or body-type is always going to be a good idea. So here’s a simplified run down on the differences between the two: . Low bar (first video) - generally easier for people with longer legs (specifically femurs) and shorter torsos. - More hip involvement ➡️more hamstrings & glutes.* - Most people can do more weight once technically competent due to more muscle being involved - More forward lean - can be more taxing on the lower back - tends to take longer to recover from *That being said it is still a squat meaning it is a quad dominant movement, the other muscles will just lend more of a hand to the quads in the low bar position compared to high bar (which is why people tend be stronger at low bar) . High bar (second video) - Typically people with shorter legs/femurs and longer torsos are better at these. - less hip involvement, more knee flexion ➡️ more quad dominant - less forward lean➡️less taxing on low back - generally easier to recover from. . While some people might stick to a certain type of squat due to body-type, most people are going to be able to perform both squat types competently. Meaning they can pick or choose depending on the goal. . If maximum strength is the goal, most people are going to be able to shift more weight in the low bar position and should choose that. However you will still get some people who are stronger high bar, in which case they should choose that. . From a bodybuilding standpoint, a squat is usually programmed to build bigger quads, in which case the high bar squat is usually going to be more specific to. This isn’t to say a low bar squat won’t build the quads, the high bar position just tends to put more of a focus on them. . As mentioned

One year ago today, I made the first step in my fitness journey. I put my health as a priority in my life and went at it full force. No special teas, shakes, pills or extreme dieting. I changed how I ate and hit the gym hard six days a week. It was a lifestyle change and one I have been able to maintain thoroughly for a year so far with no plans of slowing down. I studied workouts and strived to understand nutrition so I wasn’t just counting calories but I was making my calories count. 70 pounds down with a total loss of 68.5 inches overall. I’m excited about how far I’ve come and looking forward to how far I’ll go! . . #happy #lovinglife #livethelifeyoulove #lovethelifeyoulive #fitness #fitlife #fitspo #fitfam #fitnessmotivation #fitnessjourney #myjourney #gym #gymlife #gymmotivation #gymrat #lifestylechange #fitnessjunkie #happy #lovinglife #livethelifeyoulove #lovethelifeyoulive #fitness #fitlife #fitspo #fitfam #fitnessmotivation #fitnessjourney #myjourney #gym #gymlife #gymmotivation #gymrat #lifestylechangenotadiet #body #bodytransformation #bodypositive
