WHAT A WEEKEND!! 2 solid days of forging that I posted about over at @federknives One person I’d like to selfishly thank is @lwrhea. He shared with me his method for making the X-Rhea style blacksmith Knife (the best design for this knife Period.) and I made him a progression watercolor of it for him to do as he sees fit. I forged 3 this weekend & the beautiful part of blacksmithing is adjusting and getting better with each time. This is the last and the best of the 3 which I’m thrilled about. Thank you Lin. I truly appreciate the generosity of your information based on the years of effort and innovation. You’ve made me a better blacksmith and I’ll always be grateful. (P.S. We won 7 Editors choice Blue ribbons and burned the place to the go the ground) #blacksmith#bladesmith#forge#forging#handcraft#handmade#bespoke#knife#knives#customknives#hudsonvalley#blacksmithknife#anvil#forged
A few months ago my metal supplier put a individual in contact with me that was looking for someone to make him a set of large skewers for a potugeese style bbq. He was from California but, was down here visiting his daughter and son in law. He called me and discussed what he was wanting and how he had grown up doing this form of cooking and had always done it as a family. The skewers were original made from wood from the bay tree. He wanted a metal version that he could leave down here at his daugters house for when he came to visit. I explained to him that I would forge a set out of bar stock and he aggreed that he would like that look. I did up a protype and texted him a video of it and he was happy and said to go ahead and make them. His trip back got delayed by a couple months but he was finally able to come back a couple of weeks ago. We got to meet in person and I gave him my version of his Espeto skewwer he had described to me. Needless to say he was very happy and decided on the spot that they were to nice to leave down here and that he was going to figure out someway of flying back to California with them and ordered another set on the spot, although a little simplier, that he could leave down here. Said he would be back in November. It's nice to see someone happy with something, especially with today's mentality that most folks have. Took several months to come to fruition but all ended well and I've got a customer on the other side of the country now. Although it was a small project it was a good one and all started because a vendor was listening and thought outside of the box. Yes, he made it back to California with the skewers on the airplane as well.
For sale - at 462 lbs this is the largest Bavarian pattern that I’ve had, and in near mint condition. A masterpiece of forging, this anvil was constructed out of at least 10 pieces. If you have ever struggled with forge welding take a look at the 4th pic to put things in perspective. This anvil is so clean it still has the factory chamfer around the hardy hole and along the edges. For price/info please send a message. I can ship inexpensively. Have a great Monday 🤙................................................ #anvil#anvils#blacksmith#blacksmithing#forge#metalwork#tools#handtools#vintagetools#antiques#peterwright#swage#swageblock#mandrel
