Much needed post from @sam_xceedfit !! 💥Cardio or Weight Training for Fat Loss? By @sam_xceedfit💥 . . 🏋️‍♂️I was speaking to a lady the other day who had lost weight doing cardio, but since she started lifting weights, her weight had stalled, so she asked if she should she go back to just doing cardio? (If you aren’t sure why your weight may not move, even if you’re still losing fat, refer back to my post I did a few days back) . . 🏊‍♀️Here’s the thing, there’s nothing wrong with cardio and it can help with fat loss. However, just doing cardio provides very little (if any) muscle stimulus, like weight training does. Now because cardio usually burns more calories per minute than weight training, just doing cardio can cause more WEIGHT loss but not necessarily FAT loss (huge difference remember!) . . 🚴‍♂️This is why it’s very common to see people who mainly do cardio and don’t lift heavy weights, look soft and skinny fat and even if they have lost lots of weight, just look like a smaller version of themselves. Not only that, if they ever stop doing so much cardio (which they probably will do) the weight will just come back again! . . 🏋️‍♂️For weight training, however, you can actually stimulate muscle growth and give yourself a better chance of losing actual body FAT (even if it’s not scale weight) and maintaining a lean physique in the long term? Unless you don’t want this of course. Up to you! . . 🏃‍♀️Again, this is not saying cardio is bad for you and for most of my clients, I recommend they supplement their weight training with some cardio, for health, recovery and stress release benefits, as well as, burning some extra calories.
