As Summer passes, I'll comment on something specific. For me, growing up in the south, there's only one sound that signifies a late, humid summer afternoon and that's the tight-rattling call of a cicada. They live most of their lives underground as larvae (certain species up to 17 years), and emerge as nymphs that shed their thin second skin (which you see pictured) only to mate, give birth and die just a few weeks later. Crazy life cycle. I saw six or so empty shells attached to one of the trees in my backyard while I was cutting grass. The sun was low and shining through the thin parts, so I stopped to take the opportunity to take a few quick shots while the light was nice. No matter what region of this fine country I end up migrating to in my lifetime, the cicada's call will always remind me of home and remain the singular sound of the summer season. I now welcome Fall.
We are so excited to be at the end of our first weekend! It’s been an honor to meet so many of you and have you dine in our space. We will be closed tomorrow but are excited to share about our first day of full service soon!
Imagine owning a professional chef's knife with a handle made of coffee beans, rice, hops, or sunflower seeds? As a young cook I had three choices when it came to professional knives. A very cheap Dexter Russell blade or spend real money on a German blade, Wusthof or Henckel. They had black handles that were made by the thousands and they gave you callouses on the palm and thumb. Today there's Dan Eastland of @dogwoodcustomknives. He goes so far to shape the handle to one's palm and he'll make that handle from anything you can imagine. Chefs from across the country use his knives and he has a fascinating story. He's the next guest on the #tinrooffarmradioshow. Care to win a $25 gift certificate towards a Dogwood Custom Knife? Follow me, tag a friend then drop a question for Dan and you'll be in the running. 😎👍 #tinrooffarm#yeahthatgreenville#taylorssc#hereingreer#cheflife#truecooks#foodpodcast#greenvillesc#kitchenknife#customknife#euphoriagvl
