Jacksonville, Florida is getting some outer bands of rain and wind from subtropical storm Alberto (we will be safe, swipe left for radar). This hurricane kitty (read my bio!) loooves watching the wind blow the leaves around. Stay safe furriends! #irmocat
I’m driving through the Florida Keys today and seeing some of the damage from #hurricaneirma for the first time... that’s making me think about #puertorico and it’s avian inhabitants, and how they are recovering after Irma’s direct hit. This #adelaideswarbler that I saw gathering nesting material last March is 1 of at least 17 endemic birds that live and breed on the island. Massive damage was caused by Irma, but slowly Puerto Rico is recovering and so are it’s birds. If you’re interested in birding Puerto Rico, and helping with the recovery effort, check out wildsidenaturetours.com to sign up for our next tour or schedule your own private trip! #puertoricanbirds#prbirding#birding#warbler#warblers#endemicbirds#caribbean#zeissbirding @wildsidetours By the way, I’m not totally sure of the genetic history of this species, but if I were to guess it’s probably the result of Prairie and Yellow-throated Warblers getting it on in the Caribbean.... 😉
VG resident Kim Takeuchi pauses after #visar Swim and SUP the Sound at Leverick Bay to tell us what it was like in #vg immediately after #hurricaneirma. Check out the rest of her words on bvibeacon.com. #bvistrong#vg#bvi @leverickbaybvi @virginunite
#hurricaneirma was 350 miles wide! Nine million #poweroutages expected by #fpl Six million people #evacuated... 25% of the state's population... It's the biggest #evacuation in #ushistory! Largest pre-storm workforce in U.S. history (17,000 restoration workers)! #hurricaneirma2017🌀 Hundreds of EMS vehicles came in before the storm, and every hotel in the state was sold out!
