Harding Racing and Steinbrenner Racing have combined for the 2019 IndyCar Series. The newly formed Harding Steinbrenner Racing will carry the same lineup from last weekend's Sonoma Grand Prix. Indy Lights champion, Pato O'Ward will race the HSR No. 8 Chevrolet and defending Freedom 100 winner, Colton Herta will drive the HSR No. 88 Chevrolet. The announcement was made in Yankee Stadium, in New York City. George Steinbrenner IV is co-owner and chairman of the New York Yankees Major League Baseball team. The duo were teammates in Indy Lights at Andretti Autosport, with George Steinbrenner IV co-owning Herta's No. 98 Honda. Harding Racing ran full-time in the 2018 IndyCar Series with drivers Gabby Chaves, Conor Daly and the rookies of Herta and O'Ward. The team's best finish is 5th at Texas in June 2017 with Gabby Chaves. Chaves was originally planned to race all of 2017 with Harding, but was moved around later in the season and is on contract for the team in 2019. The Coloumbian-American of Chaves won the 2014 Indy Lights Championship and the Freedom 100 in the same season. The team is expected to be a satellite team for Andretti Autosport once they switch to Chevrolet.
