Findings from the International Shark Attack File reveal in 2017 there were 88 attacks against humans worldwide. The ISAF says the average number of human fatalities from shark attacks over the last five years is at six. Mosquitos are a far more dangerous threat, as the World Health Organization estimates mosquito bites lead to more than one million human deaths per year. Conversely, the number of sharks that humans are responsible for killing annually is at staggering 100 million, according to a 2013 Marine Policy journal. 📷 Michael Mueller . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . #instascience#instatechnology#instatech#instaeducation#instanews
Melting metal with magnetic field __________________________________________________ FOLLOW 👉 @thesurgcom for spectacular science videos Double TAP to show some ❤️ __________________________________________________ An electric current is bouncing around the coil, and thanks to the metal object, inside the magnetic field. Eventually, electricity is generated within the metal object, which in turn generates more heat than the metal can bear. . Amazingly, the metal actually melts while it’s suspended in the coil, but the magnetic field holds it together. When the electric current passing through the coil is shut off, the metal immediately drops out of the field, and lands as a melted pile of cooling liquid below. Vid Cred: YT/ databeatdev
I’m a bit sad. . . Take a quick glance and you can see most of these pictures are selfies. When I rank all my photos by number of likes, comments, engagements, impressions... my most popular photos are of me. . . I’m sad by this because I’m doing #scicomm for the sake of science. The posts I’m most proud of don’t feature me, they’re about my work. I get so thrilled when I think of new content ideas and yet today I found myself saying to alex, “If I were to cater to what my audience wants it’s more pictures of me, not my work.” To which he said, “Post about exactly that instead.” . . I want to engage you all in the amazing world around you! I know so many of you do follow me for my science content and I thank you for it. So please, comment your ideas, questions, and thoughts! I will continue to post science for the sake of science & I want to encourage you all to engage with it, especially so that I know what kind of content to do more of!
