Pretty perfect. I haven’t had a ton to do out here the past couple days, things are planted and doing their thing without much help needed from me. Which makes me happy and also a little... I don’t know, I wish there was more to do... guess it’s time to start more seeds!
23rd cycle ✨ @MOFOseeds TOBC1 ✨ This particular container started a long time ago with soil and amendments etc that I wouldn’t touch today, and low mineral content. But that’s OK because it doesn’t matter what you start with, through simple principals of Soil Building you can create the greatest soil money can’t buy. The bargaining agent is time. For example - if you’re following my “Terraced Straw Bale Garden Bed” project, it directly stems from me getting tired of working against a poor farming locale that has already taken several years to get to a point it would still take 10 more years to get the soil to a truly productive level. I’m tired of waiting (LMAO!). Now in another example, perhaps your soil is rich but just needs to get broken up and aerated. A season or two with heavy cover crops, mulching and boom you’re ready to rock n roll with #notill from the get go. Perhaps you have land that is virtually pure sand. You have great oxygen penetration but no humus, your soil can’t hold water or life. This might take several seasons of cover crop and mulch to get there. Do you want to wait 5-8 years? Maybe you do and you enjoy the challenge and watching the progress and how the soil changes over time - great! Or perhaps you have a greater need to grow nutrient rich food and medicine ASAP, in that case you’d want to invest in loads of compost and a heavy cover crop for a season - you’re ready to go! Do you understand my point? Time vs investment vs intent is your considerations. In the case of what’s pictured here, this was my learning experience, I thought I had bomb dot com soil but in research, observable results and most importantly hands on experience I was able to bring the soil up to par. What did it come down to? #mulch#covercrop#worms#humus #minerals. Whatever you don’t start with, incorporate as time, investment and intent allows. Does that make sense? #holisticobservation#notillgardening
