While down in the keys over Father’s Day weekend I had two surprisingly productive shooting sessions, one at sunset on the first day and one at sunrise on the last day. Lying 6 miles offshore and marked by an unmanned lighthouse, this stretch of reef is known as one of the most dangerous in the Caribbean. The reef was also considered by many to be the most beautiful in all of the keys through the 1970’s with a otherworldly colony of elkhorn and staghorn coral that can no longer be found there today. Countless boats have run aground on this delicate stretch of reef over that last few hundred years but it’s beauty and diversity still remains to be seen today.
