My wife is from New Mexico and even though her family no longer lives there, she loves coming back. It’s a pretty unique place. With the architecture of adobe buildings, high desert climate, green chile on everything (even at McDonald's!), the mix of Western and Native American and Spanish cultures, vast national forests and access to wide open spaces, I can see why it will always be a special place to her. Whether we’re just passing through on our way from Texas to areas up North or spending dedicated time here, it's not like anywhere else in the United States. I think that is what makes travel so addicting. You can go 2-hours outside your metro area or fly to the other side of the earth and you'll still end up in a place totally different from home. It opens up your thinking, exposes you to different ways to live life, and makes you appreciate what you have (while gaining an appreciation for what others have). Life is just too short to not explore.
