It’s going to be a week of sun and fun. PT sessions will focus on super slow controlled reps and movements . Still giving you a good work out but more strength focused rather then jumping around getting your heart rate up. I’d advice sessions take place indoors unless you have a lovely shady spot in your garden. Do stay hydrated and make sure you eat properly too. Don’t let the heat put you off training, find a shady spot and just commit to a short workout. You’ll soon find once you get into it, you’ll carry on for longer. This week’s Mac-Nutrition Uni lecture was all about meal timing and frequency. . The lecture covered everything from. 👉🏻 The effects of meal frequency on health and weight loss 👉🏻 Meal timing and carbohydrate bunching 👉🏻 Breakfast 👉🏻 Regular vs chaotic eating . I wanted to do a post on one of these topics because it’s definitely one that I hear a lot about within the industry and that’s BREAKFAST. I want to go through what people think, what the actual research states and what people should be thinking about when it comes to breakfast and weight loss. . What people think 🤔 Breakfast is the most important meal of the day as it has lots of benefits like kick starting your metabolism and stopping your body from going into starvation mode resulting in greater weight loss. . Let’s have a look at the research shall we? 🤓 A study by Dhurandhar et al. (2014) states “A recommendation to eat or skip breakfast contrary to widely espoused views, had no discernable effect on weight loss in free-living adults who were attempting to lose weight”. . Even when we look into the research with individuals that skip breakfast and take into account their concentration levels, performance and cognitive function, we see no statistically significant difference between this group’s cognitive function and that of those that consume breakfast. . Consultation 😀 Now that we are all aware of the research around breakfast and its correlation with weight loss (or may I say, lack of correlation) we can conclude that it is not essential.  Saying that, if an individual enjoys eating breakfast and it’s going to allow them to adhere to the diet better, have it! . Lastly as we know all diets work the same way by putting an individual into an energy deficit (consuming less calories than they are burning) so the most important factor is for them to be able to adhere to the diet, not the timing of when they eat the meals.
