Sometimes, I contemplate on where the most ideal country to live is. As travelers, we see many places in the world that captivate us, where we imagine moving our lives to. But as travelers, too, there is that inherent danger that we see is not real life. Is Italy a place I could move to, with its tangle of bureaucracy, but in exchange you get a shot at la dolce vita? Because of the recent political conditions in America, I am seriously doubting if this is the greatest country in the world. Is wealth worth it if it perpetrates inhumane policies for immigrant children and minors? I don’t deny that illegal immigration is a complex issue, not very removed from the refugee crisis in Europe. But how “great” of a country is it if it is tormenting children and separating them from their mothers? Who have we become? And at what point do we say that the burden of democracy is too much to bear and that it is time to pack up and move on? If you were asked, where is the best country in the world to live?
