Today we celebrate the feast of the Franciscan saint, Saint Joseph of Cupertino. . He is the patron of aviators, flying, studying, and those with learning disabilities. We like to take him on as the patron Saint of special education: both for those educators and health professionals and families as well as children and adults with disabilities & special needs. . . A little about his life: He was considered to be a slow learner. He was clumsy and had difficulty picking up a trade or hobby. He got frustrated and angry easily. He was not very popular and was considered strange, seen with his mouth open and tongue hanging out. He wanted to be a Franciscan however was turned away at first. As he matured he grew in humility and gentleness, prayer and piety. He eventually was accepted as a franciscan friar, first was a deacon then a priest. He was know for many miracles and the most famous one being levitating in the air. People would come see him just to watch him "fly" as he prayed. To him this was a great cross in his life as he did not ask for this gift nor did he want this popularity. He was eventually not allowed to celebrate mass in public because he would float in the air (levitate without wanting to) and it was a distraction for those coming just to see him. He was happy to be removed from public ministry and spend time alone with Jesus in private prayer. He was also known as a good confessor and helping others grow in holiness. . . St. Joseph of Cupertino, pray for us! . . . . . #stjoseph#stjosephofcupertino#sanjosedecupertino#sanjose#italian#franciscan#stfrancis#fly#aviators#specialeducation#pilotlife#pilot#patronsaint#specialeducationteacher#specialneeds#specialed#catholickids#speechtherapy#slplife#slp#catholicmom#faith#saint#catholic#christian#feastday#saintlyheart
