Happy International Yoga Day! Tell me how you feel about quad stretches. The vast majority of people don’t stretch their quadriceps often enough. In yoga, being directly connected to the movement of the hip joint, tight quads can really limit your expression of backbends, or any postures where one or both legs needs to extend back away from the body. . These are some pretty basic quad stretches that I find most beginner or tighter-quad students can access. The “beginner” part is slightly inaccurate because some quads are just super tight even if you have been practicing for a little while. . Remember that there are variations even to these, where you can sit more upright if you’re getting a lot of intensity, or recline more. Basically the further back your knee is from your heart, the more sensation you will access. . Do you struggle with opening up your quads? Share below! Mine were tight for YEARS. Deep quad stretches (which tie into hip flexors) could honestly make me nauseous. . Regular stretching of this body part also helps with posture as it affects your natural pelvic tilt, and creates more space and freedom in your gait. It’s important! Just because my back feels like a thousand elephants trample on it every night, doesn't mean I need to stay stagnant.
