Not really following much of a program since the meet, just going in and having some fun. So tonight I decided to test some trap bar deadlift maxes. Worked up to a beltless 635lbs, and then followed it up with this pull at 675lbs. First time I’ve ever touched 7 plates on anything so this is a huge confidence booster. Trap bar jumps! (Note; this video is sped up). . Train movement patterns not exercises! Trap bar jumps are a great exercise for training explosive triple extension! . I’ve found that you can go quite heavy with them, as opposed to other loaded jumps! How heavy you go will be dictated by which part of the force velocity curve you are targeting! Lighter loads are going to result in faster movements, with less overall force output, whereas heavier loads are going to result in slower movements, with more overall force output! The main thing is, regardless of the load, the intent should always be to move the weight/your body, as quickly as possible! I also prefer to cluster these, having 5-10s rest between reps, to ensure I’m getting the most out of each rep! . Trap bar jumps are great for training explosive triple extension! Watch the athletes body, in order to train triple extension, you need to be getting full extension at the hips, knees and ankles! If you’re an athlete and you’re not training triple extension, you are probably missing out! . Doing legs tonight! 👍💪👏 4x8 on the squats working up to 500lbs 4x10 deadlifts (trap bar) 3x12 Glute bridge 5x14 ham curl 5x14 quad extension 8 sets calves  I only do a couple of heavy sets (90% or more 1rm) everything else is moderate weight for higher reps at a slowish tempo! Trap bar deadlifts by @westhoughtonlionsopenage rugby league club. We spent 14 weeks preparing the lads in the pre season. Now we're assisting them in the mid season break.  Me and fellow strength coach @logicallifting choose exercises that are easy to teach and provide the most bang for your buck. Today the lads did trap bar deadlifts, strict overhead press, chin ups/inverted rows and strongman frame carry.  Using a trap bar means you don’t have to lean too far forward over the bar as per the conventional deadlift because you are essentially stood inside the bar which offers a more neutral core position. This can prevent injury or strain to your lower back and if you’re injured you ain’t playing rugby.  The body position using the trap bar shifts more focus of the movement to your quads and away from your lumbar meaning you can generally lift more weight – studies show that power lifters are able to lift as much as 20kg more using a trap bar instead of a barbell. And more weight being lifted off the floor means more strength.  Your core is still being targeted which means, abs, glutes, lower and upper back plus your grip strength, biceps, traps and shoulders whilst your body produces more testosterone and growth hormone – all of this gained with better form.
