I feel like a lot of the couples I’ve worked with lately have wanted shots in front of trees; right before this shoot I’d had two other shoots where we did the same concept and I had told myself I should avoid a tree shot during this shoot (to avoid repetition). But Alana mentioned she’d had a vision of her and Daniel in front of a tree, and this tree was THE tree. After processing my insecurities about being too repetitive or seeming cliche, I started thinking about the significance of trees and how sometimes cliches form because there is an element of truth that makes a repeated image/concept WORTH repeating. Besides being a source of life for us as human beings, trees are sturdiest when existing in unity AND in symbiotic relations with fungi and countless other organisms. Trees protect, warn, and nurture each other by rationing nutrients through an underground fungal network (sometimes going so far as to funnel nutrients to elderly stumps in order to keep them alive and well) and even when they do finally pass on, leaving their peers behind, they continue nourishing their community with a slow release of rich nutrients. If there were ever an image worth returning to as a symbol of love and life, it is without question the tree. 🌲 (Plus the high demand for tree shots is making me think about how to get more creative with framing to try and honor the individuality of the subjects...so that’s a pretty great benefit too☺️❤️). Dendrochronology: the science of tree-ring dating. . The trees in the Ancient Bristlecone Pine Forest high in the White Mountains of the Inyo National Forest are the oldest recorded on earth. . In 1957, University of Arizona Laboratory of Tree-Ring Research dendrochronologist Edmund Schulman discovered 17 bristlecone pine trees that were more than 4,000 years old, including Methuselah, which dated back more than 5,000 years (and is still living). For perspective, that means these trees started growing around the same time the Sumerians invented writing and the Egyptians built the Great Pyramid. . The gnarly, twisted pines grow at elevations between 9,800 and 11,000 feet above sea level in rocky dolomite soil. White dolomite is what gives the White Mountains their name. The wood is very hard and smooth - good luck getting a splinter - because of the trees’ high sap content, which also contributes to their longevity. . Unfortunately, Schulman’s work was cut short when he died unexpectedly in 1958 at just 49. However, National Geographic published his article on the trees posthumously. That same year, the U.S. Forest Service established the 28,000-acre Ancient Bristlecone Pine Forest and dedicated the Schulman Memorial Grove in his honor. . . . . . #bristleconepine #ancientbristleconepineforest #dendrochronology #trees #treerings #inyonationalforest #whitemountains #universityofarizona #nationalgeographic #science #treescience #amazingfacts #getoutside #historylover #amateurphotography #amateurphotographer #photography #nature #naturephotography #pinetrees #easterncalifornia #travelphotography #explorer #traveler #getofftheinterstate #seeamerica #learnsomethingnew #gnarly

Axel Erlandson was a Swedish/American Farmer who shaped trees to all kinds of artistic forms and figures. I started doing the same thing a few years ago. After a long time of experimenting, practicing, and perfecting my work, I finally can to do it myself. I am turning this hobby into a part time business. Many people don't realize that plants have sexes. The male part on the tree disperses the pollen. Some plants have both female and male parts, some have just the male or just the female reproductive parts. #🌲 #treesapfrost #conifer #coniferous #pollen #evolution #malecone #pollencone #reproduction #lifecycle #lifeoftrees #trees #tree #coniferoustrees #treescience #haploid #diploid #meiosis #sporophyte #plants #plantlifecycle

Check out deez roots. Many people think that a majority of tree roots are deep in the soil profile, however most roots are in the top foot of soil. ______________________________ #roots #arblife #arborist #outdoors #root #soil #hardwork #treescience #climbing #tree #nature #treestuff #instadaily #instagramer #beautiful #urbanforestry #environment #climber #heights #rope #instacool #photooftheday #landscape #fun #picoftheday #instagood #love #followback #look

Hey everyone, pruning trees as they are beginning to leaf out for the year is a bad idea, it can stress out the trees while they are using so much of their energy to come out of dormancy. #knownforexpertpruning #videonyoutube

You might think how can trees be similar to humans? Well just like our bodies, a tree's trunk makes up its overall shape and strength. It is the principal conduit for fluids that transport nutrients, hormones, and sugars up and down and around the tree, just as our own vascular system distributes nutrients and energy throughout our body. In a tree, this transport is accomplished not by arteries and veins, but via xylelm and phloem, a network of tubes that run between the roots and the leaves, respectively carrying water and minerals upward and moving sugar down from the leaves to the branches, trunk, and roots for storage. How amazing?
