Aftermath of the #typhoonlikeweather we had yesterday here in #melbourne ๐Ÿ˜ฑ my only casualty was these #snowpeas which I put in the ground in March this year. I have always continuously put them in the ground every 3-4 weeks so when things like this happen I have back up plan B, C, D and E ๐Ÿ˜‚ #wintergarden #winterweather #winterveggies

All of a sudden craving some stir fry ๐Ÿ˜‹
๐Ÿคท‍โ™€๏ธ This year I made the rookie mistake of planting my #cilantro all at once. It looked lovely but I did not get to use much before it went to bolt.* I will do weekly succession planting in the future. . . . . . . . .The good news is, the seed is worth eating and saving!๐Ÿ‘Œ Once a plant section was about half-brown, I cut it, hung it upside down in a brown paper bag, and waited for it to dry completely. Now we can use it for planting next season, OR #coriander for the spice cabinet! . . . . . . . . *This term did not mean ANYTHING to me even 6 months ago. In gardening, "go to bolt" basically means flower/set seed, such the plant does not continue growing the leaves you have been eating. โœ”๏ธ
So I was looking at my pea plants, wondering what was wrong with somw of them, as their stems were lighter in colour. Then I spotted this and remembered that I planted differet pea varieties next to each other! Can't wait to see this one open up!! Now to work out which variety it was.... • #peas #food #instafood #paddocktoplate #growfoodnotlawns #growsomething #thehappygardeninglife #gardening #mygarden #epicgardening #backyardgarden  #gardeningaustralia #instagarden #vegetablegarden #urbanorganicgarden #urbangardening #urbangarden #organicgarden #organicgardening #homegrown #backyardfarming #garden #growyourownfood

I've been pushing too hard. Clearly demonstrated on a hike that should have been easy, but I was so sick for most of the day. My stomach has been a bundle of nerves every work day as I attempt to lead through significant change. But, taking a step back, I reallized and remembered that I don't have to be party to the chaos. I don't have to drown in stress. I don't have to invent workplace goals and objectives, fix every problem with our house right now, hike every hike, or feel like a shitty friend/partner/boss because I can't do it all. I try, but I really can't do it all. :) Sometimes my body has to force me to remember this. One of my favorite things about our home though is the garden. I have spent hours over the last couple weeks planting, watering, weeding, enjoying the peace of this space. I feel lucky to be here, and to be able to stand over the sink and feast on strawberries and cucumbers with homemade ranch dressing. Lol.. I look forward to many more of these farm meals. :) #gramyourgarden #urbangarden #seattleurbangarden #gardenproject #growyourown #urbanorganicgarden

I have (had?) a very detailed, diagrammed plan for my fall garden, now derailed by a multitude of free seeds (see last post on @gardenfortworth). ๐Ÿ˜… Looking at the seeds and the planting recommendations for #zone8a and #tarrantcounty, I decided to start: ๐Ÿ‘‰ Okra | Sugar Snap Peas | Peppers ๐Ÿ‘ˆ . . . . . . . .  The #okra is Clemson Spineless, an #heirloom that's recommended by our ag extension office for the county. It should be perfect timing - I'm hoping to have 2 plants for the #raisedbed and 2 or 3 for our flower garden in the front yard. ๐ŸŒบ๐ŸŒบ๐ŸŒบ . . . . . . . . . #sugsrsnappeas should also do well right now and they will either get planted out or potted.๐ŸŒฑ๐ŸŒฑ๐ŸŒฑ . . . . . . . . . The peppers are questionable - recommendations to start from seed were for about 2 weeks ago, to transplant in 1-2 weeks. I'm hoping they'll sprout quickly and have time to produce, but I saved most of these seeds for next season. I have a California Wonder (sweet) and Hot Lemon (another heirloom). ๐ŸŒถ๏ธ๐ŸŒถ๏ธ๐ŸŒถ๏ธ
A beautiful swallowtail butterfly ๐Ÿฆ‹ enjoying our oregano flowers. Such a treat to see this amazing creature in our garden! We plant dill every year because the swallowtails will lay their eggs on it.
