#thisisyoga - did you know that yoga used to be a man thing? And that it was taught 1-2-1 (guru to student), not in a group setting? You probably didn't seeing as the general interpretation of yoga in the West couldn't be more different. I'm stoked to have lots of guys among my students, on occasion even turns into a yoga bro sesh (if that's even a thing...it is now 😁)  In last night's workshop, Jamie Clark of @theyogapeople dropped some interesting knowledge 💣 on the correlation between yoga asana (the postures we practise) and bone structure - in other words, the reason you might find it hard, not to say impossible, to throw a certain shape, could well be related to the anatomy of your skeleton 💡  Something you cannot change, by the way. This nicely leads me onto what I said in my post yesterday - apply the principles of alignment for any given pose to your body and see what that does, modify as needed with the help of your teacher, and don't worry about whether it looks like what they, or the person next to you is doing. Overforcing your range of motion (ROM) creates strain and compression, and will lead to injury 🤓  So stop sulking about not being able to touch your toes with good form, or busting out a lotus seat, okay 🙌🏻?
