#louiskahn said, "The Sun does not realize how wonderful it is until after a room is made." I do not believe a room or space is constricted to four walls. Sometimes it is an exterior space whose "walls" are trees, winding pathways and other boundaries. Visiting @longuevuehg is always a great moment in #nola because it reminds me that every structure or design concept must respect the natural environment, respect it's neighbors and will only be accenuated by its connection to what was, is, and will become with time. I leave here always inspired and sometimes find myself here for inspiration at the start of a new project, like I did so today. The shadows cast throughout the day and time of year change constantly. Nothing is design should be static. . . . By the way, if you are ever curious to know what #pervious#concrete looks like, take a walk through the #kindergarden . . . #watermanagement#followyournola#nolaarchitect#neworleansdesign#architectslife
Hardly time to proces my visit to Galápagos as I’m currently working #onassignment for @boskalis_official working on land that didn’t exist 2 years ago. The Marker Wadden are a good example of a long history of Dutch engineering and water management. This time however we are not fighting the seas, but trying to restore the natural dynamics in one of the largest freshwater lakes in Europe. After using the lake’s sediment to construct several islands, @boskalis_nl planted rhizomes and seeds. After several weeks the first reed-plants started to sprout from these roots and seeds, creating a new habitat for birds to breed and fish to spawn.
