The 8th amendment disproportionately hurts poor and vulnerable women. We all know Irish women have abortions, we simply can't have them with the support of our doctors and communities. Tomorrow, please keep that in mind - vote YES. #repealthe8th#abortionishealthcare
This is happening. Repeal the 8th in motion. Heading home to vote. To be fair, I’ve traveled a lot over the last month. Cork, Dublin, London, Brussels, Paris, The Hague, Amsterdam - - - my heart and soul are full of nervous energy and I’m an absolute emotional wreck seeing all the other posts of people heading home to vote. So, bear with me if I start to cry at random moments in the next 48 hours! This is my single most important journey ever. Period. Full stop. This journey is to ensure no other Irish woman ever again has to make a lonely journey across the water. Period. Full stop. Let’s do this Ireland. Kindness. Compassion. Choice. Love. Energy. Repeal.
When my Nan left home and moved to England she unknowingly gifted me future rights to my body that are still denied to my wonderful friends and cousins in Ireland. Tomorrow is my 30th birthday. For 30 years, by chance of geography, I’ve grown up safe in the knowledge that with the advice and support of health professionals I can always make a choice about my womb, my body, my future • As an adult, I’ve worked with women who have had to travel to GB for that right, making the ordeal that much more uncomfortable, expensive and distressing. Women are not equal to men under this law, they do not have the freedom to make choices about their bodies, nor the right to safe and regulated healthcare. They are often forced to make dangerous choices that risk their own health, freedom and lives. Vote yes for all the women who have died, from intervention left too late, from aborted cancer treatment that risks a foetus, from suicide because they are out of other options. For all the women who have been raped or are facing crisis pregnancies. For all the women who are not in a position to raise an unwanted child. And for all our young girls who deserve to grow up with the options that I have had, with human rights that have been denied to so many women for so long • I understand it’s a fraught emotional issue, and people against repeal are trying protect an unborn foetus. But time and time again we risk and lose the mental and physical health, not least the lives, of thinking, breathing, loving women. They deserve to live, free from pain and distress. Whatever your own religious and moral philosophy, it is just that; your own. You can still absolutely make the choice of what to do with your body and your life. Please vote for all women to be able to the same and #repealthe8th tomorrow. I can’t think of a better birthday present 🇮🇪♥️👫👭👬 #voteyes#togetherforyes#bemyyes#womensrightsarehumanrights ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ #repost @weemissbea
