Welcome to the Bartlett, Welcome to M.Arch Architecture 2017-18 and Welcome to Unit 20's "Nature 2.0". . This year we will be constructing the Avant-garde. As achitects, we are establishing a new attitude towards design, one in tune with 21st century technology, political cultures and our transforming environment. Be inspired by a Constructivist Legacy across the vast Russian landscape and witness 'Nature' take on a new role in the frontline of design, research and innovation. The spectacle of cavernous spa pools within Helen Siu's (Y5) design for the 'New York Aqua Therapy and Spa Centre'. Her intricate analogy of adaptable patternworks were extended up to architectural scales, creating a patterned building skin that acts as a light filter, ventilation layer and solar heat store. The building possesses the delicate, interlacing language of her earlier knitted pattern work studies. / /#architecture #architecturemodel #architecturestudent #render #student #ucl #bartlett #model #art #pattern #patternmaking #aquatic #spa #pool #itscritday #next_top_architects #design #fabric #knitting #skin #newyork #highline #experimental #london
The wondering practice spaces within Daryll Brown's (Y4) design for the 'East Boston School of Performing Arts'; dominated by organic branching concrete structures. The project pays homage to Boston local Arthur Fiedler, creating a playful internal forest environment hosting sculptural concrete tree members. His unique structures stem from his innovative linear fabric formwork casting methodology. / /#architecture #architecturedesign #architecturestudent #interior #student #bartlettsummershow17 #bartlett #concrete #sculpture #casting #environment #innovation #render #performance #art #design #fabricformwork #architecturemodel #studio #next_top_architects #critday #itscritday #art #arthurfiedler #experience #boston
Physical and Digital section modelling by Kiki Tu (Y4). Her design for the 'Maverick Aquatic Sports Centre' in East Boston stems from geometrical and functional investigations of porosity. Fluid embedded within the structure of the building's canopy regulates the building environment through both solar heating and evaporative cooling systems. / /#architecture #architecturephotography #architecturestudent #architecturemodel #student #ucl #bartlett #model #3dprint #3dprinting #fluid #innovation #cooling #heating #dynamic #sea #engineering #bartlettsummershow17 #critday #boston #itscritday #next_top_architects #experimental #london
The spectacle of intense frameworks generating spaces within Jessica Wang's (Y5) 'Tessellated Acoustic Symbiosis' design language. Within her design of a Chamber Hall and Church Interface, the precise tessellations of the tiled frames simultaneously perform acoustic control and programmatic enclosure, bound by the dimensions of the New York City streetscape. / /#architecture #architecturemodel #architecturestudent #acoustic #study #ucl #bartlett #nyc #voronoi #digital #render #model #newyorkcity #innovation #archdaily #tesselation #design #bartlettsummershow17 #interiordesign #next_top_architects #critday #itscritday #space #art #hall #environment #london
Yiki Liong's (Y4) design for the 'Maverick Centre of Research and Native Aquatic Plant Conservation' envisions an educational facility that aims to revitalise the aquaculture of the Boston Harbour. A series of Biomes house regional aquatic plant species as well as an underground seed library encouraging the diffusion of knowledge between the public and in-house researchers. / /#architecture #architecturephotography #architecturestudent #architecturemodel #student #ucl #bartlett #bartlettsummershow17 #cnc #3dprinting #eden #aquatic #critday #itscritday #archdaily #texture #woodworking #biome #craft #library #design #greenhouse #experimental #boston
This aerial shot of New York City hosts Matthew Pratt's (Y5) design for the 'New York Forum', a contextual response to the Hudson yard rail depot and surrounding highline walkway. Extensive ideas of branching and connectivity produce an architecture that organically transitions from micro to macro scale architectural elements. / /#architecture #context #architecturestudent #filigree #study #ucl #bartlett #render #3d #digital #model #newyorkcity #newyork #archdaily #highline #bartlettschoolofarchitecture #nyc #architecturemodel #complex #next_top_architects #critday #itscritday #design #art #experiment #bartlettsummershow17 #london
Patrick Mawson's (Y5) 'Brooklyn Cruise an Logistics Terminal' establishes intelligently sculpted spaces for both cruise liners and down to the human scale. His studies into robotically controlled carvings generated a series of unique textured spaces, formed by the translation of air flow simulations into the slashes and scoops of their surfaces. / /#architecture #architecturephotography #architecturestudent #model #student #ucl #bartlett #prototype #sculpture #carving #material #innovation #3dprinting #robot #simulation #design #engineering #architecturemodel #foam #next_top_architects #critday #itscritday #art #experiment #experience #london
If your heading to the #bartlettsummershow17 this weekend, be sure to stop by unit 20 and see Thomas Bush's (Y5) @thomasjbush Residential complex model. The building hosts a public velodrome and integrates into the High Line in West Chelsea, NYC, applying deformable enclosures created using engineered fibrous materials. / /#architecture #architecturephotography #architecturestudent #details #student #ucl #bartlett #project #sculpture #wood #texture #shading #walnut #archdaily #woodworking #design #engineering #architecturemodel #dezeen #next_top_architects #architectural #itscritday #art #experiment #composition #london
An essential achievement of project "Composite" was the translation of what we learned from our individual material experiments in to speculative digital representations. Following Mon Thi Han's (Y5) design research into slip cast ceramic systems, her digital works speculated the potential complexity of these thermal regulating vascular systems. / /#architecture #architecturephotography #architecturestudent #environmental #student #ucl #bartlett #prototype #veins #digital #model #3dprint #3dprinting #ceramics #design #engineering #architecturemodel #dezeen #next_top_architects #critday #itscritday #art #experiment #environment #london #bartlettsummershow17
This year, unit 20 took on the design brief of "Composite". It was an exploration of the manipulation and combination of materials, via both high tech (digital) and low tech (analogue) production methods. Here Mon Thi Han's (Y5) design research generated unique slip cast ceramic systems that replicate the thermal regulating functions of the human blood vascular system. The discovery of material behaviours has greatly informed and enriched the language of our designs. / /#architecture #architecturephotography #architecturestudent #environmental #student #ucl #bartlett #prototype #veins #digital #model #3dprint #casting #ceramics #design #engineering #architecturemodel #dezeen #next_top_architects #critday #itscritday #art #experiment #environment #london #bartlettsummershow17
Last but not least of our term one studies, Will Chen's (Y4) project envisions a biological landscape serving as the skin of a building. His project generated numerous skeletal carbon fibre frameworks inspired by biological skeleton formations in nature. / /#architecture #architecturestudent #skeleton #study #ucl #bartlett #prototype #3d #digital #render #structure #bones #archdaily #generations #design #engineering #architecturemodel #complex #next_top_architects #critday #itscritday #components #art #experiment #carbonfiber #london
Tom Wong's (Y5) studies inspired by the biological functions of hair formed his collection: 'Hair - Fibrous Invasion'. When you visit the summer show, be sure to check out Matthew Pratt's (Y5) 'Transitions of the Filigree'. His several investigations into origins of the filigree provide a basis for geometric, material and time based studies into transient architectural conditions.
