Dropping over into a backbend can be scary unless you’re taught the right tools to land lightly.  We’ll be exploring this posture as well as the backbends and Arm Balances found in the Ashtanga Third Series in my small group  workshop in Pasadena this Saturday.  DM me for more details.
Kukkutasana, from Ashtanga Primary Series.  After rocking around on your back in a full circle, nine times, you lift yourself up for five  breaths. The posture is a great counter pose to Kurmasana, (the deepest forward bend in Primary Series). Lifting up at the end builds strength in the upper back and further develops Uddiyana Bandha, the internal core strength necessary in Second and Third Series for Advanced Arm Balances.  Primary Series is also called “Yoga Chikitsa” which means Yoga Therapy.  Primary  strengthens and detoxifies the body. It is the foundation of the entire Ashtanga practice. . . . Remembering my first proper yoga photo shoot in 2014.  We shot three sessions in two days in Joshua Tree.  The first day was in the studio with me just doing my regular practice, so coming off a two hour drive I dove into Primary and Second Series Ashtanga. I made a new elixer today, and it turned out great. Got the recipe from @youngandrawofficial and just had to try it.  I never thought of adding cinnamon or chia seeds to this drink, but makes so much sense, as cinnamon is also anti-inflammatory as is tumeric, and the chia seeds are a great source of fiber, and help with digestion.  I soaked the chia seeds about 10 minutes and then blended it all up with a little honey.
