Andrés Iniesta Luján (born on May 11, 1984 in Fuentealbilla) is a Spanish football player. The attacking midfielder under contract with FC Barcelona is mostly used in central midfield, but occasionally plays on the left side, also as a wing-winger.

In the final of the 2010 World Cup against the Netherlands, Iniesta scored just before the end of extra time, the winning goal for the Spanish national football team. Iniesta was selected at the European Championships 2012 for the second time after 2008 European champion and he was also the best player of the tournament.

Together with his team- mates Lionel Messi and Gerard Piqué, as well as with Xavi, Clarence Seedorf and Cristiano Ronaldo, Andrés Iniesta holds the record of most Champions League titles with four successes.

Andrés Iniesta was born in Fuentealbilla in the Spanish province of Albacete and began playing football at the club Albacete Balompié from the provincial capital of Albacete. At the age of twelve, he was spotted by FC Barcelona scouts at a club match and immediately committed to his extraordinary talent. He attended the association's own boarding school La Masia, where he was trained. Iniesta went through the youth teams of FC Barcelona and he was used mostly in defensive midfield. In the 2000/01 season, he played for FC Barcelona B, where he became the playmaker.

On October 29, 2002, Iniesta made his debut in the Champions’ League group match against Club Bruges. During his first season at Barca he came to six league and three Champions League appearances.

In the following season 2003/04, he was mostly a substitute for Ronaldinho and thus came up with a goal in eleven league games. In his third season, 2004/05, Iniesta was a fixture in the squad of FC Barcelona and he played 37 out of 38 league games, although he was only twelve times in the starting eleven. He only scored twice in the goal this season, but gave some assists for fellow players like Samuel Eto'o or Ronaldinho.

In the season 2005/06 you could see a steady improvement of the midfielder. At the beginning again he was usually only substitute but after an injury of his teammate Xavi he was often took part in games and also scored a goal.

Iniesta's first goal of the 2006/07 Champions League, which was also his personal first-team winner in the premier class, was scored in the 7th minute against Levski Sofia. Also in this season Iniesta was one of the pillars of his team, he missed only one league game and was with his six goals of the most prolific midfielder.

As a result, Real Madrid is said to have offered 60 million euros for Iniesta in July 2007. Former FC Barcelona President Joan Laporta said immediately, "We will not sell Iniesta. He is part of the heart of FC Barcelona and is a key player of ours. "Iniesta himself commented on the offer from Real Madrid: "When I say that I want to end my career at Barcelona, I mean that with all my heart."

During the 2007-08 season, Iniesta completed 28 full-time league games, more than ever before in his career.

On 6 May 2009, he scored in the Champions League semi-final second leg against Chelsea in added time. Three weeks later, Barça won the Champions League final against Manchester United, and he was one of the best players on the court. In this season, he also won the Spanish championship and the Copa del Rey and was the first time winner of the Triples in the club history of FC Barcelona. He was then awarded by the magazine Don Balón as the best Spanish player of the Primera División. In the vote for FIFA World Player of the Year in 2010, he was among his team-mates, before Xavi and behind Messi chosen in the second place.

In the 2009/10 season, Iniesta had to fight often with injuries and so played only 20 league games from the start. Also, in the last games of the season, when Barça again won the Spanish championship, he was not ready for use.

In the following season Iniesta was again in Champions’ with Barcelona and won the final against Manchester United and the Champions League. In October 2017 Iniesta signed a permanent contract.

Little is known about Iniesta's private life, in July 2012 he married his girlfriend Anna Ortiz. On April 3, 2011, their daughter Valeria was born. In 2014, he and his wife lost their second child together due to a miscarriage. On May 31, 2015 he became the father of a son, Paolo Andrea.
