Shannon Ashley "Shay" Mitchell (October to April of 1987) is an actress, model, entrepreneur and Canadian author, best known for its role as Emily Fields in series Pretty Little Liars.

Mitchell was born in Mississauga, Ontario, daughter of Precious Garcia and Mark Mitchell. His parents work in finance. Her father is of Scottish and Irish descent and her mother is Filipina, she is from the province of Pampanga, and left the Philippines at 19. She has a brother named Sean. She is the first sister of Lea Salonga, singer and theater actress who won the Tony Award, known for having originated the leading role of Kim in the musical Miss Saigon. Even when she was a little girl, Mitchell was interested in performing arts, telling her parents that she would pursue such a career. Mitchell began dance classes at the age of five, and she and several of her classmates toured the city to compete with a variety of other dance schools. At the age of 10, Mitchell's family moved to West Vancouver, British Columbia. Within a year of their arrival, an international modelling agency conducted an open call for adolescents and pre-teens who were competing for representation. Mitchell was one of the selected girls. She attended Rockridge Secondary School and was then transferred to the West Vancouver Secondary School where she graduated. She got the nickname of Shay because she is a big fan of Jennifer Lopez aka J. Lo, so her friends called her "Shay Lo".

By the end of her adolescence, Mitchell had modelled successfully for a variety of businesses in cities as varied as Bangkok, Hong Kong and Barcelona, but later returned to Toronto to study acting. After signing with her first theatrical agency, Mitchell appeared in the Canadian teen drama series Degrassi: The Next Generation and participated in several national commercials. Mitchell made special appearances in the Global Rookie series appeared in the music video for "Hold My Hand" by Jamaican rapper Sean Paul. In 2010, Mitchell appeared in a 4 episode story arc in the Disney XD series Aaron Stone as cheerleader Irina Webber.

In December 2009, Mitchell was released in the planned adaptation of ABC Family (now Freeform) of the series of books Pretty Little Liars. Initially, Mitchell auditioned for the role of Spencer Hastings. In January 2010, the series was picked up by ABC Family. The series focuses on four friends against an anonymous enemy that threatens to reveal all their secrets while unravelling the mystery of the murder of his best friend. Mitchell portrays the role of Emily Fields. The program gained rapid popularity despite mixed reviews. The series lasted for seven seasons and ended on June 27, 2017.

In January 2011, Mitchell signed a contract with Procter&Gamble to be the spokesperson for the Pantene Nature Fusion shampoo line. The following endorsements are American Eagle, Nike and Biore.

In September 2017, Mitchell landed a leading role in ABC pilot The Heiresses based on the book of the same name by Sara Shepard and is created by I. Marlene King.

Mitchell co-authored the youth novel Bliss with Michaela Blaney (2015). She also has her own YouTube channel about her lifestyle. In 2017 Mitchell started an Amore&Vita Inc. production company with manager David Dean Portelli and has already signed a contract with Warner Bros. Television Group.

Mitchell supported the Somaly Mam Foundation, a non-profit organization that fought against sex trafficking until it ended operations in 2014. She has also worked with The Trevor Project along with the cast of Pretty Little Liars and NOH8 Campaign. She works with WE Charity, which helps communities develop educational resources, and she accompanies Represent Clothing to promote teenagers where half of the income went to GLAAD.
